iamlovingkindnessnetwork & social prescribing

We are an online community and have created a safe virtual space for our members to connect daily in the spirt of online community and LovingKindness.   Our online daily community group sessions on Zoom (access these via our members hub) are designed specifically to deliver a program of motivational, uplifting content whilst enabling members to choose if they wish to participate in some of the practices* or just relax and sit back and listen.

With reference to social prescribing specifically our service dispels loneliness and replaces it with lovingkindness and a virtual space to belong. members use our service for all sorts of reasons and in respect of loneliness we know:

Loneliness and isolation

we livestream each day (we are adding more sessions shortly):

07:15 – Morning Boost! Community group session

08:15 – Morning Boost! Community group session

18:45 – Evening unwind and de-stress Community group session

morning boost! Community group wellness session- program includes:

  • lovingkindness welcome and narrative/mindfulness practice to remind everyone how special we all are
  • morning checkins – our morning check in to share how we feel is normally it’s limited to 2 or 3 words depending on how many people are in the session & of course you don’t have to do it. it’s really powerful, it connects the Community, it allows the member to express their thoughts out loud, we become more aware of what is going on in the mind instead of being in state of automatic negative thinking (ants). this awareness creates room to change behaviours. it might be the only time members get say how they feel that day. do this daily it’s a game changer!
  • morning group affirmations (please also see below for example of what we say and the science bit of how it works) – at the iamlovingkindnessnetwork we include affirmations in the morning sessions and this has a phenomenal effect on your day. it’s also really good fun and and yes gives you a boost to your day – the practice of being consistent with your affirmations quickly has a positive impact on your life.  this could look like an improvement in your overall health and happiness, leaving you energised and empowered.

– sessions close with a LovingKindness narrative to uplift and boost us into our day

evening relax and destress Community group sessions

– lovingkindness welcome and narrative/mindfulness Community practice to remind everyone how special we all are

– 3 good things* – three good things is about focusing on the positive moments, experiences, people, that we may sometimes take for granted or not notice all together. recalling these experiences reaffirms in the memory, put’s life into perspective which lift’s our mood and dissolves crumbs of potential negativity building up (ants- automatic negative thoughts). promotes sleep, people who experience greater positive emotions tend to put more effort into overcoming obstacles, perform better at work, less stress & be more confident read more here

– as part of the evening Community group online session we use a gratitude practice to promote a soothing mind, that warms the heart and makes us resilience for tomorrow and gives us peace at the end of the day.in this practice we experience positive emotions such as gratitude, loving-kindness, and compassion and literally feel the stress of the day loosens its grip and at the end we are relaxed and ready to settle in for a good nights sleep.

You may choose to keep a journal after, noting three to five things that day for which you feel particularly grateful. you can draw on the strength of this gratitude whenever you wish.  read more here

*we use heartwarming western science based practices for a meaningful life from UC Berkley designed for practitioners to use and are well documented and very easy to understand and follow https://ggia.berkeley.edu/ for information on the iamlovingkindnessnetwork facilitator please see about us

What is Social Prescribing?

social prescribing, also sometimes known as community referral, is a means of enabling health professionals to refer people to a range of local, non-clinical services. the referrals generally, but not exclusively, come from professionals working in primary care settings, for example, GPs, practice nurses and link workers.

many factors affect our wellbeing, be it physical, socio-economic or environmental. it is estimated that 1 in 5 visits to a GP is for a social issue rather than a medical one.  some of these problems cannot be solved by doctors or medication alone.

social prescribing focuses on helping people with social, emotional or practical needs by connecting them to a variety of non-clinical local services which support wellbeing and social welfare.

people’s health and wellbeing can be affected by a range of factors. as a result, there is a growing recognition that some patient needs could be better met by other kinds of support in the community. this is where social prescribing could help. social prescribing recognises that wellbeing can be influenced by a range of social, economic and/or environmental factors. it seeks to address people’s needs holistically, empowering them to take more control of their health. it focuses on non-medical needs affecting health or well-being by linking people to local, community groups or organisations (e.g. luncheon clubs, walking groups, cultural activities, debt advice) to help with a spectrum of problems including social isolation, loneliness, housing issues or unemployment, focused on improving mental health and physical wellbeing

how did social prescribing come about in primary care networks?

the NHS long-term plan (2019) incorporated social prescribing into its comprehensive model of personalised care. one of the six core evidence-based components of this model looks at Social Prescribing and Community-based support. as part if this, Social Prescribing is a means of enabling GPs and other frontline healthcare professionals to refer their patients to a link worker and community connectors who takes a holistic approach centred on what matters to the individual and their unique situation.

The NHS Long-Term Plan predicts that by 2023/24, every GP practice in England will have access to a social prescribing link worker and 900,000 people will be referred by then.

Social prescribing works for a wide range of people, including people with:

With long-term illnesses or conditions

With mental health needs

With complex social needs

Who are lonely or isolated*

Who want to lose weight and get fit

Who need help with housing, financial or employment issues

morning daily BOOST!

start your day with a lovingkindness morning  booster session!  the beauty of life is in the living of it. and the living of life is now. yes it is fine to make grand, wonderful plans and to then bring those plans to life through your efforts. yet do not ignore the quiet, stunningly beautiful treasures in each ordinary moment.  happiness is not in some distant place of perfection and pleasure. happiness is waiting for you to give it life in this moment. if all your dreams were to suddenly come true, you would have no use for them. for the real essence of their joy is in the journey you take to reach those dreams. it is in working your way through each day, one moment after another, that you connect with the value of life. every flavour of experience adds to the richness in one way or another.  do not put a lot of effort into judging whether today is good or bad, happy or sad. just go ahead and live it with a thankful heart and you will surely experience this day’s own special value.

holding the ‘space’ for all

our sessions are held in a respectful way, holding the space for all. the iamlovingkindness facilitator takes the members through the uplifting material/content  and leads on affirmations which members can participate out loud or mentally affirm. if there is time members may have time to check in and in two or three words say how they feel that morning or evening.

if there is time for shares members will be invited to share on content in the session always from the their perspective and not cross sharing on what others may of said already.

iamlovingkindnessnetwork is a safe virtual space for all its members – in support and in kindness for all.

mental shower every day

by gently calming ourselves and consistently tapping into positive stimuli we interrupt the negative self-talk, start being kinder with our thinking and distracting ourselves, our thoughts, feelings and beliefs will also change over time and we become healthier.

at iamlovingkindnessnetwork our daily virtual sessions are designed to give everyone the space to be seen and for members to hear motivating and uplifting content in a safe and loving virtual environment.

instead of being locked into the cycle of our disproportionate negative thinking we can lift our selves into the positive and really effortlessly from the comfort from our homes reap the amazing benefits of having positive stimuli and connection on a daily basis.

we all have a need to maintain the integrity of the self, a global sense of personal adequacy. events that threaten self-integrity arouse stress and self-protective defences that can hamper performance and growth. to counter act our ants (automatic negative thinking) positive affirmations can boost our confidence, reduce negativity, reduce self belief and produce positive changes in many areas of our lives. they can act really quickly.

when we focus on something, we give it tremendous power

do you consciously control your thoughts to focus on positive outcomes? or do you allow your subconscious mind to let negative & unhelpful thoughts go unchecked?

at the iamlovingkindnessnetwork we include affirmations in the morning sessions and this has a phenomenal effect on your day. it’s also really good fun and and yes gives you a boost to your day.

the power of affirmations lies within your subconscious mind. that is also where the negative mind sits & using affirmations they will override that negativity thus improving your mood and outlook throughout the day. when you remove mental barriers, replace negative self-talk, and develop empowering affirmation habits you’ll reap the benefits immediately.

the benefits are individual to everyone and what’s better than  saying affirmations? saying them in a group.  try it tomorrow in one of our morning sessions and see how you feel.

the practice of being consistent with your affirmations quickly has a positive impact on your life.  this could look like an improvement in your overall health and happiness, leaving you energised and empowered.

what are positive affirmations?

affirmations are short, positive, powerful statements put simply, they are positive phrases about yourself and how or what you’d like to be. a positive affirmation in itself is a beneficial thought that can boost your confidence, reduce negativity, reduce self belief and effectively produce positive changes in many areas your life. they act really quickly.

so if you wake up in the morning and feel a bit low they pick you up and can turn the day towards a positive note.

initially many people find them a strange thing to do and may find it a bit awkward at first 🙂 it’s helpful to recognise that most things we do for the first time feel a bit strange and then after a while we are like a duck to water and really enjoy them.

examples would be:

‘I let go of (negative memories and focus on a positive future).’

‘I accept (myself for who I am).’

‘I walk (tall and with confidence).’

‘I build (new levels of confidence every day).’

‘I integrate (positivity into every action I take).’

‘I am thankful (for those who love and care for me).’

you might find this a powerful way to get ready for work everyday and/or implement into you morning routine. research (carried out in Psychological Science November 2005 vol.16 no.11) identified that affirmations can lower cortisol (the stress hormone) and help reduce stress on both an emotional and physical level.

affirmations can promote higher levels of self esteem and optimism. people find they are automatically thinking good thoughts and that mindset has a positive ripple effect into all parts of their lives.
