evening gratitude practice for mind-ful-less
our 10 minute gratitude practice is used to promote resilience, a positive mood, hope, and as we experience positive emotions such as gratitude, loving-kindness, and compassion, our awareness broadens and our creativity and problem-solving capabilities blossom, and we become more effective in whatever we choose to do.
this gratitude practice promotes a soothing mind, that warms the heart and makes us resilience for tomorrow and giving us peace at the end of the day.
in this practice we experience positive emotions such as gratitude, loving-kindness, and compassion and literally feel the stress of the day loosens its grip and at the end we are relaxed and ready to settle in for a good nights sleep.
members may choose to keep a journal after, noting three to five things that day for which they feel particularly grateful. they can draw on the strength of this gratitude whenever they wish.
when science meets mindfulness
meditation practices are diverse and include approaches that cultivate mindfulness (moment-to-moment nonjudgmental awareness) and approaches that build focused attention. in focused-attention meditation, attention can be centred on a neutral object or a positive word, image, or emotion.
practices that intentionally focus on a positive word, image, or emotion tend to generate more positive emotion. benefits to people include relieving chronic pain; depression, post traumatic stress and social anxiety,
positive emotion leads to better cognitive function, social support, and mental health, all of which can contribute to an overall sense of well-being. even a fleeting experience of positive emotion temporarily broadens thinking and allows individuals to consider ideas they would not have otherwise considered.
positive emotion gives rise to greater creativity, attention, and ability to integrate many sources of information; in other words, meditation focused on increasing positive emotions can improve our abilities to learn, think clearly, reason with clarity, improve our memory, problem solve, decision making, and increase our focus and attention span.
